America’s Involvement in the Iraq War and its Consequences

Many people wonder about America’s involvement ever since we entered Iraq.  Some say that we shouldn’t even be in Iraq.  War has changed over time, and its no longer about gaining territory or exploring new places.  Yes, war has changed and it is more about weapons and or in the U.S.’ case, maintaining ‘peace’ around the world.  We in America think that by invading countries, we are doing a good thing and we have complete control of the situation.  However, as with the Iraq War, many people have debated wheather or not we should actually be in Iraq, and if it is actually worth it?

In the article I read about the Iraq War and what toll it has taken on us, in all, it doesn’t seem worth it to be in Iraq.  This article talks about the death toll that America has suffered throughout the war, and how this war has now become the longest war in American History.  It talks about the uselessness of us being in Iraq, and how this war cannot be won, and probably never will be won.  It talks about how this war is going to be so hard to win and ultimately us being there as a country is a terrible thing, and that we are losing more lives there, then progress that is actually being made.

In my opinion, us being in Iraq is not a terrible thing.  I believe that soldiers who sign up for the armed forces know completely that being killed is a realistic situation, and that even though this war has taken so many lives, and has gone on for so many years, it is entirely worth the consequences being there.  There is no bigger sacrifice then dying for one’s country.  Yes, we have lost many lives, and we have spent an unnessesary amount of time in Iraq, however the wars we fight today are a different then those of WWII and before.  By spending more time there, we are controlling the Taliban, and Al Queda rather then trying to completely wipe them out in one fell swoop.
